Changes to Home Indemnity Insurance (HII) in Western Australia from 20th January 2020

QBE Insurance manages the Builders Warranty Insurance product on behalf of the Government of Western Australia via the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation & Safety (DMIRS).

DMIRS has made changes to WA Home Indemnity Insurance that will come into effect on 20th January 2020.

A summary of the changes is shown below that effect WA Home Builders purchasing Builders Warranty Insurance in WA.

Consolidation of Insurance Brokers

The number of Insurance brokers who directly access WA Home Indemnity Insurance via QBE Insurance is limited to a select few.

Apollo Risk Services is a WA Insurance Broker selected to place Builders Warranty Insurance WA / Home Indemnity Insurance WA on behalf of WA Home Builders with QBE Insurance from 20th January 2020.

QBE Insurance will deal with the selected direct access Insurance Brokers only in regards to placement of on behalf of Builders Warranty Insurance.

If your broker is not on the list you will need to consider alternative arrangements. 

Removal of Insurance Broker Commissions

Insurance Broker commission has been removed from the base premium charged by the scheme to assist the scheme remaining commercially viable for WA Home Builders and consumers.

Selected Insurance brokers will charge a fee for service to assist Builders with annual eligibility applications, processing new applications, invoicing, and issuing new certificates.
